What is Forensic Nursing?

Forensic Nursing plays an integral role in bridging the gap between health care and the legal system. Forensic nurses provide care for patients who have been involved in a violent crime, whether they be victims or perpetrators of the crime. This type of nurse offers psychological, physical and social care and collects evidence to use in court.

The most common use of forensic nursing in the United States is in sexual assault cases. Other branches of forensic nursing deal with domestic abuse, child abuse and neglect, death investigation, mistreatment of the elderly, corrections, emergency services and mental health.
