It’s National Firefighter Health Week!

August 16-20th is National Firefighter Health Week. This is a weeklong initiative to educate fire and emergency service professionals, as well as the community, about safety issues first responders face.
This year’s theme is “Only You Can Keep It Strong. Are You Up For The Challenge?”
Each day of National Firefighter Health Week is dedicated to a different health issue firefighters and emergency service personnel face:
Monday August 16th is Head Strong (Behavioral Health)
Tuesday August 17th is Respond Strong – Put it On (Protective Equipment)
Wednesday August 18th is Strong at Heart (Heart Health)
Thursday August 19th is Stand Strong Against Cancer (Cancer)
Friday August 20th is Strength for Life (Nutrition & Physical Fitness)

NEW Courses: Fire Officer and Hazmat
Kaplan Continuing Education has launched two new online fire training courses designed to keep your skills current: "Hazardous Material (Hazmat)," and "Fire Officer: Principles and Practice."
The Hazmat course satisfies NFPA's requirements for first responders and the Fire Officer course addresses topics such as the IAFC/IAFF Firefighter Safety and Deployment study and more.

New Medic Monthly Course: DNR Orders for Patients with Terminal Illnesses
Kaplan Continuing Education's new medic monthly course will focus on Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) orders for patients with terminal illnesses. The training will be for paramedics and first responders and will teach them how to deal, both legally and ethically, with these types of cases. Nothing is harder than standing over a patient and not being able to do anything; but with this training, paramedics and first responders will be well prepared should they face this tough situation.
